Moki Mania

Second dive with my son Nate. Mermaid's Kitchen was calm on the surface but underwater was a very active surge. It was most likely caused by the incoming Cyclone Gabrielle. You can see the effects of the surge in the videos below.

Of course the surge couldn't deter the Blue Cod.

But the highlight of the dive was the Blue Moki throughout the site. Maybe it had something to do with the surge but they were oddly comfortable with us getting close.

In one of the swim-throughs there were more Moki than I've ever seen in one place in Mermaid's Kitchen. We were able to swim right along with them in the surge.
