Pied Shag

November 14, 2020

A bit breezy but an otherwise beautiful day for a dive. A lot going on under the water and above the water too.

Blue Moki Bottom Feeding

I found the carcass of a crayfish and try to feed the fish with it.

Fish Feeding

I tried the crayfish legs on as a crown and got photo bombed by a fish in the background.

At the end of the dive we surfaced a bit early and were a ways away from the shore. I spied some birds hanging out on one of the rocky outcroppings of the marine reserve. It turns out they were pied shags, aka pied cormorants. New Zealand Birds Online is a great resource for identifying birds.

From there it was a short surface swim back to shore.
