HMNZS Canterbury Dive Through |
July 7, 2020 |
During a long surface interval, we planned out our second dive of the day on the wreck.
The first half of the plan was to:
- Descend via the mid-ship line.
- Make our way to the deck beneath the bridge.
- Descend into the body of the wreck via the gun turret hole and have a look around.
- Exit via the only door.
- Look into the room opposite the door.
- Head towards the hull exit but take the door on the right.
- Move into the sonar room and check it out.
- Move into the next room and check it out (note the cow on the chair).
- Exit the wreck via the hole in the hull.

The second half of the plan was to:
- Follow the deck railing to the prow.
- Turn around and head back to the bridge while beginning an ascent.
- Descend into the bridge and check it out.
- Exit the bridge.
- Ascend via the mid-ship line.
- Safety stop.

It might seem simple but it was definitely the most involved wreck dive through I've ever done. I was glad we had planned it pretty thoroughly. The old adage to plan your dive and dive your plan.
