Deadman's Reef

August 21, 2022

We're spending the first four of five days of diving in Fiji with Aqua-Trek. Great shop with a very nice crew. Good sized boat too.

Before jumping in with the sharks, the first dive of the trip was a "check out" dive on Deadman's Reef. This was so they could determine our skill level and see how much babysitting they would need to do. So we buddied up and dropped us in the water.

It wasn't the most spectacular reef but it was good for a nice easy dive. Maybe they use it for the "check out" dive because there aren't too many distractions.

Coral

The coral that was there definitely had some interesting structures with lots of little fish living in them.

Half way through the dive we were visited by a remora (without it being attached to a shark). It felt a little bit like foreshadowing.

Then at the end of the dive it reappeared and got up close and personal. It stopped just short of attaching itself to me.

All done with our "check out" and ready to get on with it.
